Part 1: The Good Side of Social Media

We hear a whole lot of the term 'social media' nowadays. It has drastically changed the way we communicate with people. Social networking gets a huge amount of coverage from the news and media because it is a big part of many of our lives. It is portrayed in a mixture of positive and negative lights. Today we will talk about the good side of it.

Easy communication. As young people would refer to it, in the 'olden days' if you wanted to talk to a friend you would have to contact them by landline. However, social networking has made it so much easier to speak to people now. In a touch of a couple buttons on your mobile phone you can have immediate contact with anyone. And even better, you can connect with people all around the world for free. This is obviously one of the biggest benefits of using social media.

Quick updates. Also in the olden days, we had to wait for our newspaper to turn up in the post or watch the news report on TV. Now, news from all around the world can be accessed through social media. One example is Twitter, with 'Moments' and popular hashtags. You can read about trending events in politics, entertainment and general news about what is happening in the world. People have found these updates especially helpful when they have family members or friends who live in an another country as they can hear about any important events that are going on over there and may have affected their loved ones.

Great for businesses. It is estimated that 2.77 billion people use social media. So obviously businesses can use this to their advantage. Firstly, it helps businesses to get the word out and increase the awareness of your brand. This can then help them to reach out to more of their target audience and build relationships with them. It means easy customer service as you can communicate with customers and help them with any queries or concerns they have. Also, you can always share updates on your services and products and showcase them to people who would like to learn more about your brand.

It's just enjoyable. Most of us like to use Twitter, Instagram,

Snapchat and other channels to share posts, like and comment on them. It can be fun to see what our friends and families are up to, without having to directly ask them. Sometimes we like to catch up on it when we need a break at work or when we are just chilling.

These are just some of the main benefits of social media in our lives. With it being so worldwide though, there are bound to be some issues with it. Next time, we will discuss the bad side of social media.
